Claddagh rings, claddegh rings are Irish friendship rings – whether they can be classified as tribal jewelry is debatable – the Irish used to be very tribal!

The Irish wedding band is very popular signifying love, trust and honour. Like the nyaminyami pendant, it has crossed cultures and is popular around the world. These Claddagh rings, made in South Africa are available in sterling silver and gold in any size. The man’s claddagh is a heavier, chunky version.

African Woman

Guru Girl

This beautiful mask of an African women’s face has been crafted in Sterling silver. African art is often not art in the sense that westerners understand it. Art in Africa, or art by Africans is approached from a different angle – certainly the older “art” as in African sculptures and African masks. Rather than just beauty, the African art was created for a reason, functional art – to honour the ancestors, or to protect the living. This Guru woman’s face is a fine example of the beauty that is seen in African woman, and of course art. Tribal art should be seen from an African’s perspective – tribal jewellery often filled the same functions as African Art.
